Medfield Plays Open this Weekend--Article by Lauren Miletti
Aladdin, The Hound of Baskerville:A Comic Thriller Starring Shirely Holmes is soon performing at Blake Middle School! Aladdin will be performed on the evening of April 11 and the afternoon of April 12, while the Hound of Baskerville and A comic Thriller Starring Shirely Holmes and Jenny Watson will be performed on the evening of APril 12 and the afternoon of April 13.
Aladdin is a story of a street urchin named Aladdin who, on a faithful, plot turning day, meets Princess Jasmine once the girl has snuck out of her castle where she had been forced to stay for years. This story continues when Aladdin is thrown in jail after the antagonist, Javar, locks him behind bars for his day with the Princess. We interviewed Tina Wagenseller on her part in Aladdin:
Tina plays the role of Jasmine, the female lead in the play. We asked her how she felt about being one of the lead roles and she responded so, “I love playing the role of Jasmine because I get to sing some beautiful songs from the musical, and I love getting to know some new people in other grades and really connect with everyone,” she also said, “I like my character because I enjoy acting as a princess and really getting in character, and is I mentioned, I love singing the songs in the musical.”
Another actor, Kathryn Perdella responded as well. She plays Jenny Watson in the Hounds of Baskerville, and we asked her how she felt about this part.
“I'm really excited to play this part because the character is really energetic, and she has some really strange lines. I like playing this part because it's not too easy to play, but it's not extremely challenging for me,” she said, “She gets really stressed, and when she does, she makes all sorts of not so smart choices and says some really strange things. She does NOT handle stress well at all! She even tries to jump on a massive hound with her bare hands to try and ‘save’ her best friend, Shirley, when she didn't need to be saved at all.”
Kathryn also told us her favorite part of the play, “scene 5, the scene where Dr. Mortimer, Sir Henry, and Jennie ride over to Baskerville Hall. Jennie and Sir Henry discuss some lost boots of his, and they say they are ’all set’ Jennie then pulls out her pistol and starts waving it around the train!”
Another student, Kyle Infantino, who is part of tech crew said that his favorite part of the play was all of the mystery and plot twists. Kyle also suggests that students should join tech crew for a fun and productive job on the play, next year, if possible.
Lastly, we interviewed Ella Shreve, from Mr. Heim’s homeroom and asked her how rehearsals were going. She said, “ I think that rehearsals are going pretty good, although sometimes I'm nervous if we'll get everything done in time!” and that, “Play goers should look forward to the exciting characters and scenes in both shows, and the great performance that I'm sure everyone will give.”
It is evident that this play is going to be the best one yet, due to all the hard work, Ms. Allen, Ms. Caprio, and all of the students in tech crew, stage crew, in the acting force, and everyone else has put into it. Hopefully you can go see it, as I suggest you do.
